Body
WHEREAS, by Resolution 18825, dated May 4, 2015, the Legislature did authorize a contract for assistance with an application to the U.S. Department of Transportation for a Transportation Investment Generating Economic Recovery (TIGER) grant; and,
 
WHEREAS, the construction of a modernized regional transit system has the potential to create significant economic and business development in the Jackson County region; and,
 
WHEREAS, the award of this grant would further the County's efforts in creating a modern transit system that will stimulate job growth throughout the area by providing our citizens with increased mobility and access; and,
 
WHEREAS, acquisition of the Rock Island Railroad corridor and the development of a regional transit system will enable all citizens to be active and fully engaged in their community while providing opportunities for commercial growth within the area's business community; and,
 
WHEREAS, this acquisition will provide frequent, convenient, and efficient public transportation to all corners of the metropolitan region for all of our citizens; and,
 
WHEREAS, the Legislature urges the U.S. Department of Transportation to approve Jackson County's TIGER grant application for the Rock Island Rail Corridor Multi-Use Trail Construction Project; and,
 
WHEREAS, approval of this grant application is in the best interests of the health, safety, and welfare of the citizens of Jackson County; now therefore,
 
BE IT RESOLVED by the County Legislature of Jackson County, Missouri, that the Legislature urges the U.S. Department of Transportation to approve the County's TIGER grant application for the Rock Island Rail Corridor Multi-Use Trail Construction Project.
 
Enacted and Approved
Effective Date:  This Resolution shall be effective immediately upon its passage by a majority of the Legislature.
