Body
WHEREAS, Hubert D. Lau is a Senior at Lee's Summit North High School with a remarkable record of achievement in academics and music; and,
WHEREAS, Hubert's interest in music began while listening to classical music as a small child and listening to his older sister, Clara, play the piano during her lessons, thus leading him to play the pieces by ear; and,
WHEREAS, Hubert began piano lessons at age seven and violin lessons at age nine; and,
WHEREAS, Hubert recently won two merit awards in classical piano and violin sponsored by the National Foundation for the Advancement in the Arts; and,
WHEREAS, in addition to winning the two merit awards, Hubert also won 1st place in the 2002 Young Artist Piano Competition at Missouri Western State College, 1st place in the 2002 Third Biennial Lee Piano Competition, 1st place in the Fourth Biennial Lee Piano Competition, 1st place in the 2004 Missouri Southern International Piano Competition, in addition to numerous other music awards totaling over twenty-five (25) awards; and,
WHEREAS, Hubert has not only achieved great accomplishments in music, but he has also excelled in academics all throughout his schooling by making the Principal's Honor Roll every semester, ranking first in his class among five hundred and six (506) students, maintaining a 4.6 GPA on a 4.0 scale, and receiving a 34 on the ACT test; and,
WHEREAS, as a finalist, Hubert will advance to compete in the ARTS Week Program in Miami, Florida; therefore,
BE IT RESOLVED by the County Legislature of Jackson County, Missouri, that the Legislature congratulates Hubert Lau for his astonishing accomplishments in the disciplines of violin and classical piano, and wishes him success and enjoyment at the upcoming 2005 ARTS Week Program and in all his future endeavors.

Effective Date: This Resolution shall be effective immediately upon its passage by a majority of the Legislature.
