IN THE COUNTY LEGISLATURE OF JACKSON COUNTY, MISSOURI Title A RESOLUTION congratulating the Reverend Bobby Baker on his 25 years of service to the Prison Ministries of Greater Kansas City, Missouri. Intro RESOLUTION #12345, September 21, 1998 INTRODUCED BY Victor E. Callahan, County Legislator Body WHEREAS, on September 27, 1998 at 4:00 p.m., the Reverend Bobby Baker will be formally honored for his long-standing record of service with the Prison Ministries of Greater Kansas City, Missouri, by the Board of Directors, during a special appreciation service to be held at Mt. Sinai Missionary Baptist Church at 3634 Brooklyn, in Kansas City, Missouri; and, WHEREAS, it was 25 years ago that the Reverend Bobby Baker, motivated by both personal experience and divine inspiration, organized a prison ministry in the greater Kansas City area; and, WHEREAS, while leading this ministry, the Reverend Baker has selflessly devoted himself to the important task of bringing God's word to the jails and prisons of the Kansas City, Missouri, and Kansas City, Kansas communities; and, WHEREAS, Prison Ministries has experienced steady growth and progress under the exceptional guidance of the Reverend Baker, having expanded its services to include counseling, teaching, and religious services for the inmates of Kansas City's correctional facilities; and, WHEREAS, the prison ministry has been known as St. Desmus Corporation, since its official incorporation in the State of Missouri in 1983, when it took its new corporate title from St. Desmus, who was historically recognized as the thief crucified beside Jesus Christ; and, WHEREAS, Reverend Baker, who completed his professional training at Sacramento School of Theology in Sacramento, California, is officially licensed with the Church of God in Christ and is a long-time active member of Gregg Tabernacle A.M.E. Church; and, WHEREAS, Reverend Baker is the first African-American to organize a prison ministry in the greater Kansas City area; and, WHEREAS, Reverend Baker's dream is to open a ladies' halfway house for ex-offenders; and, WHEREAS, Reverend Bobby Baker is a member of the American Correctional Chaplains and Volunteers Association; and, WHEREAS, Reverend Bobby Baker was chosen as one of the ten most influential ministers in the greater Kansas City area last year at the Kansas City Globe dinner on March 9, 1996; now therefore, BE IT RESOLVED by the County Legislature of Jackson County, Missouri, that the Legislature congratulates Reverend Bobby Baker on his 25 years of service to the Prison Ministries of Greater Kansas City, Missouri, and wishes him many more successful years with the ministry...Attorney Effective Date: This Resolution shall be effective immediately upon its passage by a majority of the Legislature.
