A RESOLUTION recognizing Dr. Wallace Hartsfield, Senior Pastor of the Metropolitan Missionary Baptist Church of Kansas City, MO, for his service to the community and congratulating him on his retirement.

INTRODUCED BY Scott Burnett and James D. Tindall, County Legislators
 
 
WHEREAS, the retirement of Dr. Wallace Hartsfield, after many years of service as a minister culminating in his role as Senior Pastor of the Metropolitan Missionary Baptist Church, will be celebrated on November 2, 2007; and,
 
WHEREAS, Dr. Hartsfield was born in Atlanta, GA, and graduated from Stanton High School in Jacksonville, FL; and,
 
WHEREAS, following service in the military, Dr. Hartsfield graduated from Clark College in Atlanta, GA with a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Elementary Education, with minors in Religion and Psychology, and was listed in Who's Who in American Colleges and Universities for his junior and senior years; and,
 
WHEREAS, Dr. Hartsfield entered the Gammon Theological Seminary in Atlanta in September 1954, and obtained advanced Divinity degrees; and,
 
WHEREAS, Dr. Hartsfield worked as a pastor for churches in South Carolina, Georgia, Florida, Kansas, and Missouri and has served in his current pastorate since 1972; and,  
 
WHEREAS, Dr. Hartsfield has served as an officer or member of a plethora of church organizations, college boards, community service boards and government agencies including the National Baptist Convention of America, the Congress of National Black Churches, the Executive Board of the Jazz District Redevelopment Corporation and the Missouri Highways and Transportation Commission; and,
 
WHEREAS, Dr. Hartsfield is a distinguished and nationally recognized speaker and academician; and,
 
WHEREAS, Dr. Hartsfield and his wife, the former Matilda Hopkins of Brunswick, GA, have four children, Pamela Faith, Danise Hope, Ruby Love, and Wallace S. Hartsfield, II, and six grandchildren; now therefore,
 
BE IT RESOLVED by the County Legislature of Jackson County, Missouri, that the Legislature hereby recognizes and congratulates Dr. Wallace Hartsfield for his outstanding dedication and service to the citizens of Jackson County and State of Missouri throughout the years and extends best wishes for his future endeavors upon his retirement.

Effective Date:  This Resolution shall be effective immediately upon its passage by a majority of the Legislature.
