Body
WHEREAS, while walking to his car in a Grandview shopping area parking lot, Arthur Corbin, a 91-year-old Grandview resident, was approached by a teenager who threatened to stab Mr. Corbin with a knife if he didn't turn over the keys to his car; and,
WHEREAS, when Mr. Corbin refused to give up his keys, the youth knocked Mr. Corbin to the ground, slashed his right hand with the knife, kicked him in the stomach, and took the keys; and,
WHEREAS, Hollie McDaniel, an 18-year-old Grandview High graduate, was nearby as this was transpiring; and,
WHEREAS, as the attacker was entering Mr. Corbin's car, Hollie stepped behind it and, when he was unable to shift the car into gear, he got out of the car, ran back to Hollie, cursed her, and hit her in the eye, knocking her down; and,
WHEREAS, because the attacker then started walking toward Hollie's car, she jumped up and started kicking and fighting him, causing him to run away; and,
WHEREAS, after a chase by a Pizza Hut delivery man, the attacker was apprehended by an on-duty plainclothes police officer who had witnessed the chase; and,
WHEREAS, Hollie is currently working as a waitress at Margarita's West in Martin City and plans to attend Longview Community College during the spring semester of the 1996-1997 school year; and,
WHEREAS, Hollie is to be praised for her quick thinking and unselfish motives in coming to the aid of Mr. Corbin, and stopping a crime in progress; now therefore,
BE IT RESOLVED by the County Legislature of Jackson County, Missouri, that the Legislature hereby commends Hollie McDaniel for her efforts in assisting fellow citizen Arthur Corbin and preventing a car theft...Attorney
Effective Date: This Resolution shall be effective immediately upon its passage by a majority of the Legislature.
