Body
WHEREAS, Catholic Charities, Diocese of Kansas City-St. Joseph, sponsors many food pantries, soup kitchens, and nutrition sites on a year-round basis; and,
WHEREAS, this social service agency also helps many people with clothing, rent and utility assistance, and medical care; and,
WHEREAS, for the fifth time Catholic Charities is sponsoring Soup-er Bowl V, an event attended by approximately 1100 people last year, many of whom are community leaders, educators, and various professionals; and,
WHEREAS, speakers at the luncheon include Archbishop James P. Keleher of the Archdiocese of Kansas City, KS, and Bishop Raymond J. Boland of the Diocese of Kansas City-St. Joseph, MO; and,
WHEREAS, the lunch, consisting of soup and bread, serves as a simulation of what many elderly, homeless, and unemployed or low-income families with children are served daily, and guests will wait in long lines, similar to those at soup kitchens and food pantries; and,
WHEREAS, Catholic Charities is to be commended for its efforts in bringing a greater awareness of hunger to the community, and for teaching leaders and other caring individuals how they can play a part in fighting hunger in Kansas City; now therefore,
BE IT RESOLVED by the County Legislature of Jackson County, Missouri, that the Legislature recognizes Catholic Charities, Diocese of Kansas City-St. Joseph, for sponsoring Soup-er Bowl V and for its continuous efforts in helping those in need...Attorney
Effective Date: This Resolution shall be effective immediately upon its passage by a majority of the Legislature.
