Body
WHEREAS, for many years Maria Tapia-Belsito has been an inspiring role model to all professional women, especially those within the Latino community in Kansas City, with her passion to improve the community; and,
WHEREAS, after moving to Kansas City from New York in 1994, Maria began working for Rose Brooks Center, as Director of Development; and,
WHEREAS, Maria oversaw and coordinated all fund raising activities, managed the annual fund, capital campaign, and various grants, and was also involved with publishing the annual report, newsletters, invitations, and brochures; and,
WHEREAS, Maria has also been active in the Latino community, working on Hispanic advocacy issues, voter registration campaigns, and youth leadership programs; and,
WHEREAS, Maria is the current Vice President of MANA of Kansas City, a member of the Greater Kansas City Hispanic Chamber of Commerce, and served on the 2007 Cambio de Colores Planning Committee and the LULAC National Education Service Center Advisory Board; and,
WHEREAS, Maria has devoted her life to the community by working countless hours with the goal of creating fair and equal opportunities for all its members; and,
WHEREAS, Maria's husband Don and three daughters, Monica, Vanessa and Christina, share in celebrating Maria's retirement; now therefore,
BE IT RESOLVED by the County Legislature of Jackson County, Missouri, that the Legislature hereby recognizes and congratulates Maria Tapia-Belsito for her many years of hard work and service to the Rose Brooks Center, and extends best wishes for her future endeavors upon her retirement.
Enacted and Approved
Effective Date: This Resolution shall be effective immediately upon its passage by a majority of the Legislature.
