Body
WHEREAS, Representative Paul LeVota was elected as Minority Floor Leader for the Missouri House of Representatives; and,
WHEREAS, Representative LeVota, a life-long resident of Independence, Missouri, is married to his college sweetheart, Nancy, and is the father of two daughters, Meghan and Madeline; and,
WHEREAS, Representative LeVota, a graduate of Truman High School in Independence, earned his Bachelor's Degree in Speech Communications and Political Science from the University of Central Missouri (formally known as Central Missouri State University) in Warrensburg and earned his Masters of Science in Management from Baker University in Overland Park; and,
WHEREAS, Representative LeVota was elected to the Jackson County Democratic Committee from Blue Township, Sub-District Eight while in college and has served on the Missouri State Democratic Committee, and both Legislative Affairs and Candidate Recruitment Committees; and,
WHEREAS, Representative LeVota, first elected in 2002, was re-elected in 2004 and 2006 as the State Representative from Missouri's 52nd District which includes southeast Independence, parts of south Kansas City, Unity Village, and parts of Lee's Summit; and,
WHEREAS, Representative LeVota has served as House Assistant Democratic Leader and has served as a member of the Committees: House Budget, Homeland Security, Veteran Affairs, Communications, Energy and Technology, and Appropriations for Education; and,
WHEREAS, Representative LeVota has received numerous recognitions and awards to include: "Best New Legislator of the Year" by the Show Me Council for Responsibility and Accountability in Government, "Hero for Healthcare Award" from the AFT Healthcare Midwest, "Defender of Patient's Safety" from Missouri Watch Coalition, "Champion of Justice" from the Missouri Association of Trial Attorneys, and the "Horace Mann Friend of Education Award" by Missouri National Education Association; and,
WHEREAS, Representative LeVota has distinguished himself by championing the cause of public education, introducing government accountability measures, increasing constituent outreach, and acting as the driving force behind the House Democrat's "Moving Missouri Forward Plan" which is an innovative legislative agenda to improve state government; and,
WHEREAS, Representative LeVota served as Assistant Minority Floor Leader for three years until the summer of 2007 when he was unanimously elected by his peers to serve as the House Democratic Leader, the highest ranking member of his party; and,
WHEREAS, Representative LeVota, as the number one Democrat in the Missouri House of Representatives, is responsible for working with majority and minority leadership in formulating policy, developing strategy and generating support for legislative priorities in the House of Representatives; now therefore,
BE IT RESOLVED by the County Legislature of Jackson County, Missouri, that the Legislature hereby congratulates Representative Paul LeVota for earning Minority Floor Leader and extends sincere gratitude for his contributions to the Jackson County community.

Effective Date: This Resolution shall be effective immediately upon its passage by a majority of the Legislature.
