Body
WHEREAS, the Jackson County Drug Commission has recommended COMBAT sponsor the Parent University 2013 event, presented by Lee's Summit CARES, to be held February 23, 2013, at a cost to the County not to exceed $1,000.00; and,
WHEREAS, the mission of Lee's Summit CARES is to direct, support, and actively coordinate efforts of the community to significantly reduce substance abuse, promote youth safety, and thereby improve the health and well-being of the community; and,
WHEREAS, the annual Parent University event will showcase thirty community agencies that provide participants the opportunity to learn about community resources on a variety of topics including effective discipline, healthy eating, and time management; and,
WHEREAS, this sponsorship will allow COMBAT to provide information to a regional audience of families, professionals, and community leaders about the prevention of violent crimes and substance abuse prevention and treatment services available to the neighborhoods and community organizations throughout Jackson County; and,
WHEREAS, said sponsorship is in the best interest of the health, safety, and welfare of the citizens of Jackson County; now therefore,
BE IT RESOLVED by the County Legislature of Jackson County, Missouri, that the Director of Finance and Purchasing be and hereby is authorized to issue a check to Lee's Summit CARES, in the amount of $1,000.00 for sponsorship of the Parent University event, to be held February 23, 2013, at Pleasant Lea Middle School.

Effective Date: This Resolution shall be effective immediately upon its passage by a majority of the Legislature.
