Body
WHEREAS, the Constitution of the United States of America, guardian of our liberties, embodies the foundational principles of limited government in a Republic dedicated to
the rule of law; and,
WHEREAS, September 17, 2026, marks the two hundred thirty-ninth anniversary of the framing of the Constitution of the United States of America by the Constitutional Convention in Philadelphia in 1787; and,
WHEREAS, it is fitting and proper that the Jackson County Legislature accord official recognition to this magnificent document and its memorable anniversary, and to the patriotic celebrations that commemorate its enduring legacy; and,
WHEREAS, Public Law 915, enacted in 1955, provides for the annual issuance of a
proclamation by the President of the United States designating September 17 through 23 as Constitution Week; and,
WHEREAS, Constitution Week provides an opportunity for all Americans, including the residents of Jackson County, to reflect upon the enduring legacy of the Framers and the rights, privileges, and responsibilities established and protected under the Constitution; and,
WHEREAS, it is appropriate to encourage citizens to reaffirm the ideals envisioned by the Framers in 1787 by remaining vigilant in protecting the freedoms guaranteed by the Constitution, recognizing that the preservation of liberty requires the continued commitment of each generation; now therefore; and,
BE IT RESOLVED by the Jackson County Legislature, that the Legislature hereby recognizes September 17 through 23, 2026, as Constitution Week in Jackson County, Missouri, and encourages all residents of Jackson County to commemorate this observance through activities that promote appreciation, understanding, education, and study of the Constitution of the United States of America.

Effective Date: This Resolution shall be effective immediately upon its passage by a majority of the Legislature.
