Body

WHEREAS, John has provided Truman Medical Center ("TMC") with six (6) years of dedication and service; and,

 

WHEREAS, John is the proud husband of Joanne Bluford and the proud father of Jennifer and John; and,

 

WHEREAS, John received his Bachelor's Degree from Fisk University in Nashville and his MBA from Northwestern University; and,

 

WHEREAS, prior to John's career in the medical field, he served as Adjunct Professor at New York University Wagner Graduate School of Public Service and at the University of Alabama-Birmingham; and,

 

WHEREAS, before joining TMC as its President/CEO, John served as CEO of Hennepin County Medical Center, Executive Director of Metropolitan Health Plan, Director of Pilot City Health Center, and Hospital Administrator of Cook County Hospital; and,

WHEREAS, during his tenure with TMC, John's leadership has produced a threefold increase in managed care contracting, a 44% decrease in employee turnover rate, and a 48% increase in net patient income over five years; and,

 

WHEREAS, TMC was recently named one of the top five quality hospitals in the nation according to the Agency for Health Care Research and Quality; and,

 

WHEREAS, John has served as a member of the AHA Committee on Nominations, task forces on Coverage & Access and Essential Access, AHA NOVA Advisory Panel, and as a RPB 6 member health system delegate; and,

 

WHEREAS, he currently serves on the Board of Directors for the American Hospital Association, the Board of the National Association of Public Hospitals, as the Chair-Elect of the Greater Kansas City Chamber of Commerce, as the Second Vice-Chair of the Greater Kansas City Chamber of Commerce, and as the President of the Missouri Hospital Association; and,

                     

WHEREAS, John's devotion to the citizens of the community has been evidenced by his dedication in providing a quality health care system; now therefore, 

 

BE IT RESOLVED by the County Legislature of Jackson County, Missouri, that the Legislature honors John W. Bluford for his hard work at Truman Medical Center for the past six (6) years.

 

Enacted and Approved

Effective Date:  This Resolution shall be effective immediately upon its passage by a majority of the Legislature.
