A RESOLUTION congratulating Charles (Chuck) E. Sandage upon his retirement as City Prosecutor for Independence, Missouri and wishing him well on his retirement.

Body

WHEREAS, Charles (Chuck) E. Sandage is retiring after 33 years of service and entertainment in the City of Independence Municipal Court; and,

 

WHEREAS, Chuck was reared in Independence and graduated from St. Mary's High School in 1957; and,

 

WHEREAS, he earned his B.A. in History and Economics from Rockhurst College in 1961 and entered Notre Dame University School of Law in South Bend, Indiana; and,

 

WHEREAS, Chuck received his law degree from the University of Missouri at Kansas City School of Law in 1965; and, 

 

WHEREAS, he is a 1966 graduate of the American Banking Association National Trust School at Northwestern University; and,

 

WHEREAS, Chuck was engaged in private legal practice from 1967 to 1969, served as an assistant prosecutor for the City of Kansas City, Missouri, and served as an assistant trust officer with Commerce Bank in Kansas City, Missouri from 1965 to 1967; and,

 

WHEREAS, since 1969, his service to the City of Independence has been distinguished by numerous honors and awards, including awards of appreciation by the Independence Fraternal Order of Police in 1971 and 1985; and,

 

WHEREAS, in 1994, Chuck was recognized for his contributions to the legal field by the Sugar Creek Optimist Club; and,

 

WHEREAS, Chuck has a life-long experience with the ownership and management of commercial and residential properties, beginning in high school and college when he assisted his mother with the operations of family-owned rental properties; and,

 

WHEREAS, he is a member of the Missouri Bar Association, Eastern Jackson County Bar Association, Lawyers Association of Kansas City, Knights of Columbus, Moose Lodge, the Norte Dame Club of Kansas City, and an associate member of the Independence Fraternal Order of Police; and,

 

WHEREAS, in 1972, Chuck became the first male to serve as a member of the Executive Board of the Blackburn Elementary School P.T.A., and he has since been active in school bond campaigns and served on the Architectural Committee for the remodeling of Independence elementary schools; and,

WHEREAS, for nearly thirty years he has served regularly as a judge for Independence senior and junior high school forensic debate tournaments; and,

 

WHEREAS, Chuck is a frequent guest speaker on the justice system for local elementary and high school classrooms and numerous civic groups and other organizations; and,

 

WHEREAS, he participates as a lecturer and advisor in training programs conducted by the Independence Police Department, Independence Citizens Police Academy, and legal seminars; and,

 

WHEREAS, he is an Eagle Scout and member of the Tribe of Mic-O-Say, and he lectures boy scout troops on government and legal topics; and,

 

WHEREAS, Chuck and his wife of 35 years, Ava, who is also an Assistant Jackson County Prosecutor have two daughters, Lisa of Independence, and Jacqueline and husband, Jeff Rajer of Lee's Summit, and one granddaughter, Mallory; and,

 

WHEREAS, Chuck has displayed professionalism and exemplary service as the City Prosecutor of Independence Municipal Court and will be fondly remembered by friends and co-workers; and,

 

BE IT RESOLVED by the County Legislature of Jackson County, Missouri, that the Legislature congratulates Charles (Chuck) E. Sandage upon his retirement, and wishes him success in all future endeavors.

Effective Date:  This Resolution shall be effective immediately upon its passage by a majority of the Legislature.
