Body
WHEREAS, the Trolley Drive In will celebrate 50 years in business on February 1, 2001; and,
WHEREAS, the trolley, originally street car no.125 on the old Fairmont Line was built in 1903 by the St. Louis Car Company and taken out of service during the 1930's; and,
WHEREAS, in 1946, street car no.125 was converted into the Trolley Drive In at 11400 E. Truman Road in Independence, Missouri, where it has been drawing customers regularly since Linda's father, Charlie Bonjour, purchased it in 1951; and,
WHEREAS, Charlie and his wife, Pauline, owned and operated the business until their retirement in 1989; and,
WHEREAS, family revolved around the trolley; between Charlie's two sons and Pauline's three children, hired help wasn't much in demand; and,
WHEREAS, Linda began working the trolley at the age of ten, washing dishes while standing on a milk crate, and took over the business four years ago, after her father passed from an illness; and,
WHEREAS, there are about 15 regulars who stop by the trolley daily for breakfast or lunch; sometimes they don't order, they just let Linda fix whatever she wants and, if someone doesn't show up, she calls their home; and,
WHEREAS, Linda Paden cares for and serves customers every day at the trolley because she "loves people and wants to see her father's dream go on;" now therefore,
BE IT RESOLVED by the County Legislature of Jackson County, Missouri, that the Legislature congratulates Linda Paden, current owner of the Trolley Drive Inn, celebrating 50 years in business.

Effective Date: This Resolution shall be effective immediately upon its passage by a majority of the Legislature.
