AN ORDINANCE appropriating $975,000.00 from the undesignated fund balance of the 2024 County Improvement Fund to cover the cost of renovations and accessibility to the Family Court Division of the 16th Judicial Circuit Court.

Body
WHEREAS, the Missouri State Legislature approved an additional Family Court Commissioner for the 16th Circuit Court to meet the requirements of an increased workload related to the Raise the Age legislation and case management needs; and,
WHEREAS, the Family Court Division of the 16th Circuit Court of Jackson County, Missouri needs immediate and critical renovations for the Family Court building located at 625 E 26th Street in an amount not to exceed $975,000.00; and,
WHEREAS, the renovations would include the conversion of the primary conference room into a new courtroom, and conversion of a staff break area and a portion of the detention area into new court offices; and,
WHEREAS, the renovations would also include an external lift to facilitate the safe emergency egress from the second floor of the Family Court building for persons with limited mobility; and,
WHEREAS, this appropriation was previously approved as Ordinance 5812 on November 27, 2023, however the contracts were unable to be signed in 2023, necessitating an appropriation in budget year 2024 to cover the costs of the contracts; and,
WHEREAS, an appropriation is necessary to place the project funds in the proper spending account; now therefore,
BE IT ORDAINED by the County Legislature of Jackson County, Missouri, that the following appropriation from the undesignated fund balance of the 2023 County Improvement Fund be and hereby is made:

BE IT FURTHER ORDAINED that the County Executive and other County officials be and hereby are authorized to execute any documents necessary to give effect to the intent of this Ordinance.
