Body

WHEREAS, since at least 1993, the Prosecuting Attorney's Office has administered its Drug Abatement Response Team (DART) program; and,

 

WHEREAS, DART is an interagency approach to the problem of drugs and drug houses in the urban core of the City of Kansas City; and,

 

WHEREAS, funded partially by grant proceeds from the Missouri Department of Public Safety, DART employs personnel of the Prosecuting Attorney's Office and the City's Police, Fire, and Neighborhood and Community Services Departments, to deal with drug houses; and,

 

WHEREAS, historically, the County has used grant proceeds to contract with the City for the services of its personnel under DART; and,

 

WHEREAS, for the year beginning July 1, 2001, the County has applied for a state grant which, if approved, would provide sufficient funds to enable the County to contract for the City's services in an amount not to exceed $96,000.00; therefore,

 

BE IT RESOLVED by the County Legislature of Jackson County, Missouri, that the Legislature hereby expresses its intent to contract with the City of Kansas City for the continuation of the Prosecuting Attorney's DART program if the Prosecuting Attorney's pending grant application to the Missouri Department of Public Safety is approved.

 

Enacted and Approved

Effective Date:  This Resolution shall be effective immediately upon its passage by a majority of the Legislature.
