Body
WHEREAS, the COVID-19 pandemic has had tremendous impact on the health and well-being of Jackson County residents; and,

WHEREAS, Harvesters - The Community Food Network is feeding hungry people today and working to end hunger tomorrow; and,

WHEREAS, food insecurity in Jackson County affected more than 13 percent of Jackson County residents before COVID-19 and has only increased since then due to the rise in unemployment; and,

WHEREAS, Harvesters supplies food to a network of more than 280 pantries, kitchens, and mobile food distributions in Jackson County who report on average, an increase of forty percent in the number of people seeking food assistance during COVID-19; and,

WHEREAS, Harvesters has provided more than four million pounds of food to residents of Jackson County in March and April of this year, an increase of one million pounds more than was provided in the same period in 2019; and,

WHEREAS, Harvesters provided more than 100,000 pounds of food to more than 1,700 households, including 4,764 adults and 3,737 children, during a special COVID-19 mobile distribution at the Truman Sports Complex on May 11, 2020; and,

WHEREAS, this mobile distribution event was made possible with the assistance of the Kansas City Police Department, Harvesters volunteers, the Jackson County Sports Complex Authority, and the Missouri Army National Guard; now therefore,

BE IT RESOLVED, by the County Legislature of Jackson County, Missouri, that the Legislature hereby extends its gratitud...
